What's in a name?

According to my Apple dictionary, admittedly not a definitive source, a ‘consideration’ is a thought, reflection, meditation, concern, rumination etc. I would like this blog to do those things. I’m hoping I can keep the posts positive because, as someone once reminded me, it is important to practise the habits of mind that you value and want to foster. For me those are: positivity, curiosity, openness and self-reflection (hence, a blog is a good forum).

Also, I’m calling them 'small' because I would like to try to get into the habit of blogging briefly but often. That way I can reflect on everyday occurrences and make this form of writing and thinking a habit, hopefully.

Bad pants

Tonight I finally got sick of trying on pants that don't fit anymore. I've gained some weight lately because of my migraine medication and not being able to exercise due to the hip issue. After getting very frustrated and almost crawling into bed instead of going out, I folded up all the pairs of pants (and two dresses) that don't fit. I hid them in the closet in the spare room. It's not that I particularly mind my larger size; it's the annoyance of planning to wear something then not being able to. Maybe in a month I'll get them out and try them on again. If they still don't fit after a month of reduced medication and increasing exercise, I might scream. Then I'll go shopping.

Free stuff! (62/100)

Today I went to the chemist near work to get more migraine medication. After I had paid and was about to go, the pharmacist said, 'I have a gift for you.' I thought it would be a $5 coupon or a sample of something I won't use. In fact, she gave me a medium-sized paper bag filled with goodies, saying, 'It's VIP day.' When I got home, I went through the contents: 7 mini bottles and tubes of moisturiser, 5 little containers of cleansers, a small bottle of roll-on perfume and some random stuff like vitamin water mix and an eye-wash kit. It will take me ages to work through all these lovely little bottles of unguents, especially since we've just been away so I likely won't be needing travel-sized items anytime soon.

I feel lucky (25/100)

Today I went outside to wash the car and the sun came out. Washing the car was much more enjoyable since I was in the only patch of sun all day. I got some vitamin D and didn't mind getting soaked by our leaking hose nozzle. Now the car is clean, at least until a bird lands on the wires above it or the wind knocks leaves off the tree. I also got brownie points from my husband for doing it.

The other reason I feel lucky is because I haven't had a migraine in a week and a half (knock on wood). In the past week I've done several things that often would lead to a migraine: shopping in the city all day, teaching a class with new material and forgetting my pills one night. Based on all this, I'm going to declare the combination of my new medication and kinesiology a success.

Vampires

I always sort of admired vampires for their insomnia. I figure they must get so much done! No wonder they all speak many languages, have acquired artistic skills in painting or music and have amassed great wealth; what else would you do with your time while everyone else was sleeping? (Other than suck blood, obviously.) Well, I'm beginning to feel a bit like a vampire. The medication I'm on is causing me insomnia - at best I sleep from about midnight to 3am, that's it. After several nights, I'm feeling like a bit of a soulless monster for the parts of the day when lack of sleep catches up on me. And, at night I'm getting lots of reading, some writing, knitting and other pursuits accomplished at an amazing rate. I'm so tired, though, that I can't appreciate it. No wonder vampires are pale, vicious, unpredictable and often miserable-looking. I am too.
